Hiring Guide

How to Choose a Pressure Washing Company in DuPage County

Not all pressure washing companies are equal. Knowing what to look for — and what questions to ask — helps you hire a professional who delivers real results without damaging your property.

The pressure washing industry has a low barrier to entry — a truck, a pressure washer, and a Facebook page is often enough to start taking jobs. This means quality varies enormously. Hiring the wrong company can result in damaged siding, etched concrete, stripped roof shingles, and costly repairs. Knowing what to look for protects your investment.

1. Ask About Soft Washing Capability

A company that only offers high-pressure washing and applies it to everything — including siding, roofs, and wood surfaces — is a red flag. Professional companies understand when to use soft washing vs. pressure washing and have the equipment and knowledge to use both correctly. Ask directly: "Do you soft wash home exteriors and roofs, or do you use high pressure?"

2. Verify Insurance

Any legitimate pressure washing company operating in DuPage County should carry general liability insurance. Ask for a certificate of insurance before work begins. This protects you if the crew accidentally damages your property, your neighbor's property, or a landscaping feature.

3. Check Reviews and Look for Specifics

Online reviews are valuable, but look for reviews that describe specific results, not just "great company." Reviews that mention what was cleaned, how it looks afterward, and whether the crew communicated well are more informative than generic positive feedback. Check Google and Facebook reviews.

4. Understand What's Included in the Quote

A good quote should specify:

  • What surfaces are being cleaned
  • The method being used (pressure wash vs. soft wash)
  • Whether a pre-treatment is included
  • How runoff will be managed (especially relevant for soft wash chemicals near plants)
  • What happens if you're not satisfied with the results

5. Avoid Extremely Low Bids

If a quote seems unusually low compared to other bids, ask why. Some low-cost providers cut corners on chemical quality, use improper equipment for the surface type, or rush through jobs without adequate dwell time for cleaning solutions to work. The cheapest option often becomes the most expensive option after damage is done.

Questions to ask before hiring: How long have you been in business? Do you have insurance? What method will you use on my siding and roof? Can you provide references from DuPage County customers? What happens if I'm not satisfied with the results?

6. Look for a Legitimate Local Business

A company with a real address, phone number, professional website, and active social media presence is more accountable than a solo operator with only a phone number.
